POLY IBADAN, BEST IN NIGERIA, SECOND BEST IN WEST AFRICA

The Polytechnic, Ibadan emerged the best Polytechnic in Nigeria and second best in West Africa in the just concluded West Africa Polytechnic Games held in Yamoussoukro, Cote D’ivoire.

The Polytechnic, Ibadan bagged 15 Gold, 11 Silver and 19 bronze totaling 45 medals in the overall medals table.

The host Institution, Nationale polytechnicque, Yamoussoukro, Cote D’ivoire came first with 25 Silver and 23 Bronze totaling 59 medals in the competition attended by 39 Polytechnics.

The Institute Polytechnique, Mali came third while the Delta Sate polytechnic, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and Yaba polytechnicque came 4th, 5th, and 6th respectively.

The Polytechnic, Ibadan with 76 students participated in Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Judo, Swimming, Table-Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis and Volleyball. The Polytechnic, Ibadan won medals in all the events except Basketball (women) and Volleyball (women).

The Institution won 4 Gold and 1 bronze in Athletics; 1 silver and bronze in Badminton; 8 Gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze in Chess; 2 silver and 3 bronze in Judo; 1 silver and 1 bronze in swimming; 3 Gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze in Table Tennis; 1 silver, 4 bronze in Taekwondo, and 3 bronze in Tennis.

The contingent which arrived the Institution to commence Second Semester Examination is to be formally received by the Management of the Institution very soon.
