The Library of The Polytechnic, Ibadan was one of the Units that took off with the Institution in 1970. The Library started on two campuses. The Main (Central) Library which is based on the Main (North) Campus succeeded the University of Ife Library, which moved to its permanent site in 1970. the other branch of the Main Library situated on another campus called the South Campus Library, which moved to its permanent site in 1970. the other branch of the Main Library situated on another campus called the South Campus
Library or sometimes Engineering Library) replaced the Technical College Library which held sway in the 1960s.
The branch Library network increased by four in 1984 when four Satellite Campuses were established. These were the Iree, Esa-Oke, Eruwa and Saki Satellite Campuses and its Libraries. Two of these Campuses Libraries were latter ceded to Osun State in 1992 when more states were created. Theses are Iree and Esa-Oke Campus Libraries.
In 1996, the Mass Communication Library at the North Campus was donated by a philanthropist – Chief Amos Adegoke. The Library is an adjunct to the Main Library.
Towards the later part of the 20th century, there was expansion of programme and thus increase in students population. The Library was unable to seat the stipulated proportion of students, hence a new Library was proposed. The propsed new Library was built and completed
towards the end of year 2005 by the Education Trust Tax Fund.
In 2004, the Library started an Internet/Electronic Mail Services and the computerization of its activities, using X-lib Library Management Software. The X-lib Library Management Software has Acquisition. Cataloguing, Circulation, and Enquires/Reports Modeles. The X-lib + Library Management Software has been installed. The X-lib + Library Management Software has additional facilites like speed search, Virtual Library and Web Services. His new facilities will enhance reading documents on-line in various formats and enable us to publish our library collections on the World Wide Web and thus be able to share information with users all over the world
FACILITIES IN THE LIBRARY
The current total book stock of the Library is about 60,000. there are about 2,300 Journals and Magazine titles. The library acquires daily and weekly newspapers and newsmagazines. This is in addition to annual and monthly reports, new bulletins of many organisations, which are sent to the Library. The Library also has a Press which provides printing services.
Other service provided in the Library includes photocopying, current awareness services, book loan, interlibrary loan and bibliographic compilation services services. Patronage.
On the internet /Electronic Mail services is also high. Efforts are also in top gear to start a bindery.

During Vacation
Monday - 8.00am - 6.00pm
Saturday - 8.00am -1.00pm
- Satellite Campuses
During Academic Session
Monday to Friday - 8.00am -6.00pm
Saturday - 8.00am -1.00pm
During vacation
Monday –Friday - 8.00am - 4.00pm.
REGISTRATIION
- Registration is renewable annually by the completion of the appropriate registration forms and the receiving of the necessary borrower’s or reader’s ticket.
- All users of the Library should have their tickets with them when using the Library. The tickets are expected to be produced on demand by members of the Library Staff.
- No person may use any part of the Library unless is duely registered and have undergone Library Orientation.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
- All readers must enter and leave the Library by the main security door
- Silence must be observed in the Library
- Smoking, drinking and eating are forbidden in the Library.
- Orderly conduct must be observed at all times in the Library
- Seats should not be reserved in the Library
- Materials left behind at closing time shall be removed by Library Staff and the Library will not accept any responsibility for any such materials.
- Cases, umbrellas, radios, bags (except ladies small wallets) etc must be left with the security at the entrance.
- Users must submit their books and papers for inspection when leaving the Library.
- All Library materials must be treated with care. Any damage to property or loss of Library materials should be reported at once. The Polytechnic Librarian may request the reader to pay for the replacement of any such materials (s) or property.
- The Polytechnic Librarian shall suspend from the use of the Library any person who infringes any of the Library regulations.
ADMISSION TO USE THE LIBRARY
Application for permission to use the Library should be made in the first instance to the Readers’Adviser.The following categories of people are normally eligible to use the library for borrowing and reference.
- Registered Students of the Polytechnic
- Members of the Academic Staff, senior members of the Administrative and Technical Staff and their spouses.
- Members of the Governing Council of the Polytechnic.
The following may use the Library for reference purpose only:-
- Graduates of the Polytechnic
- Professionals in relevant Disciplines.
- Visiting Researchers
- Certified students of other Institutions of higher learning
- Persons granted permission in special circumstances.
LOAN BOOKS
- Borrowers can have a maximum of four (4) library books with them at any one time.
- Each loan is for a period of two weeks at a time. The Period may be longer for the Academic Staff (Lecturer).
- Any loan may normally be renewed for further period of two weeks, provided it has not been booked for another reader.
- A fine of N20.00 per book per day is chargeable for any book not returned when due and not renewed.
